Japan Geisha Lacquer Comb
Japan. Kanzachi Kushi. A so-called geisha comb, rounded on the top, made of lacquered and burgundy wood to form a polychrome marquetry. Genre scenes adorned with traditional motifs on a vermillion-colored base stand out against a gilded background. Each side, decorated with geishas and samurai, is original
- On one side are four characters and on the other side two others
- Dimensions 8 x 12 cm
- Good general condition, some wear on the inlay
- The lacquer technique reached its peak in Japan around the 17th century. In the 18th century, incredible pieces were collected by the great and the good, such as Marie-Antoinette in France. Our accessory comb, made to adorn hairstyles, likely dates from the late 19th-early 20th century.
